Critical thinking and problem solving skills have epitomised education throughout history. As time has passed; the education system has become increasingly complex with the integration of learning theories, pedagogies, transformative learning spaces, behavioural management and most importantly; the evolution and role of technology. Learners within the 21st Century are experiencing an education where they are taught to collaboratively communicate and construct new understandings, while acquiring higher order thinking skills to apply beyond the classroom environment. This essay will examine pedagogies and theories regarding the impact upon the quality of education within the 21st Century through the use of digital technology. By exploring research based on the integration of technology in modern learning spaces, the objective is to demonstrate how technology, through adequate and effective teacher guidance, can transform the traditional classroom setting into a powerful learning enviro nment.
